ConnectUp

Project Description

This project will compare two interventions: Check and Connect, and (2) Check and Connect combined with the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI). This study will include 40 high schools, 20 who will implement Check and Connect and 20 who will implement Check and Connect + SDLMI. High school students with disabilities who are considered at risk for school failure will take part in this study.

Check and Connect is a one-on-one mentoring intervention to support students who show warning signs of school disengagement around attendance, behavior, and course performance. Check and Connect involves mentors systematically checking student data and connecting with students to meet and provide personalized, timely interventions to support problem solving, skill building, and enhance competence. The SDLMI is an intervention that enables students to set goals, make choices and decisions, develop plans to reach goals, and track progress towards goals, and will be provided one-on-one.
