Biography —

Doug Berryman serves as an Employment First Training and Technical Assistance Specialist at the Kansas University Center on Disabilities (KUCD). Before joining KUCD, he spent more than 30 years advocating for and educating Kansans with disabilities within the public school system. Doug began his career as a special education educator, dedicating 19 years to supporting middle and high school students with a wide range of disabilities. During that time, he also served for six years as a Transition Coordinator, where he developed a passion for helping students, families, and educators navigate the transition from school to meaningful employment and adult life. In the final six years of his public-school career, Doug served as a school administrator in a Day School setting. In this role, he built strong relationships with students with significant behavioral support needs, helping them develop skills and strategies that supported successful returns to their home schools. Doug is an Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) Certified Professional and a Credentialed Employment Support Professional (CESP). His extensive experience in education, transition planning, and employment services continues to inform his work supporting individuals with disabilities in achieving competitive integrated employment and meaningful community participation. Outside of work, Doug enjoys cooking, traveling, spending time with his wife, Brenda, and their dog, Bailey, and contributing to work on the family farm.
