Sean Tyree

Sean Tyree is a Research Assistant and self-advocate at the KU Center on Disabilities, where he works to advance disability advocacy, inclusion, and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Drawing from his professional experience and lived experience with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease Type 1A (CMT1A), Sean brings a personal perspective to his work and is committed to creating opportunities for people with disabilities to live, work, and participate fully in their communities.

As a member of the Community Engagement team, Sean contributes to initiatives focused on disability advocacy, employment, and community inclusion. He serves as a trainer for Kansas ACRE 100, an intensive training program that prepares employment specialists to support people with disabilities in finding and maintaining meaningful employment. Through this role, he promotes self-determination, individualized employment supports, and competitive integrated employment.

Sean is a former educator whose professional background has strengthened his commitment to education, empowerment, and helping others reach their full potential. His advocacy extends beyond Kansas through his participation in national initiatives with the National Employment Organization Network (NEON), where he contributes to broader efforts to improve employment opportunities and outcomes for people with disabilities.

Sean has also participated in congressional testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means, bringing attention to issues affecting people with disabilities and the importance of policies that support their independence, employment, and community participation. Through public speaking, conferences, and advocacy initiatives, he works to ensure that the voices and lived experiences of people with disabilities are included in conversations that shape policies and services.

Sean believes that people with disabilities deserve equal opportunities, meaningful careers, and the freedom to make decisions about their own lives. He is passionate about challenging barriers, promoting inclusive communities, and empowering individuals to become leaders in their own lives. Through his work at the KU Center on Disabilities and his involvement in local and national initiatives, Sean continues to advocate for a future where people with disabilities are valued for their contributions and have the opportunity to achieve their goals.
